Having stared at the map for a long time, the only way onwards was very small back roads just a dotted line on the map or highway 1. It was off on the small side roads then, we managed to stick to the route for 1.5 kilometres before we met a road closed.
After three nights in George Town it was time to wave it goodbye. A couple of kilometres through the old town area brought us back to the ferry.
After our breakfast of champions, porridge, we returned to the port to pick up the 194 then the R152 both follow the coast. The roads were very quiet, only a few passing cars and scooters.
We managed to stay awake to see in the new year, there were a few fireworks in the town but the main display was at Ao Nang Beach, too far really for us to venture. We enjoyed a quiet meal and a drink.
The alarm was set for 7:00 am so we could celebrate the New Year with family and friends back home in the UK, it seemed strange having two New Years even stranger to have one at seven in the morning.
Today we are only moving on a short distance to a hotel near to Krabi Airport, the route wandered around a little but did only use some lovely roads today with very little traffic.
There was no sign of Santa anywhere here, a normal working day in a country of Buddhists. The new year is when everyone celebrates in Thailand.
Today was forecast similar to yesterday, lots of rain, by the time we left it had just started to spot with rain.
Only a short day today 43 km into the city of chumphon, this meant a very leisurely start. Breakfast was not a buffet type as per all the other hotels and resorts we have stopped in, instead you order and they make it for you which is nice but you cannot eat until you near explode like normal, it was also proper coffee not instant and the tea came in a pot.
It is amazing what difference a pillow makes to your nights sleep, take last night huge thick pillows and a very poor nights sleep, the night before a little thinner and a good nights sleep. We must be more delicate as we age.
Throughout the night you could hear deep rumbles of thunder and often heavy rain. By morning it had stopped thundering but it was still raining.
The cycle out of Hua Hin city was slow and there was a lot of heavy traffic, but it was never a concern, nice and steady.
