After a pleasant evening stroll in the East Coast Park where there is a good beach, an excellent cyclepath, a walking path and views out across to Indonesia (only around 45 minutes by boat). We returned to a pancake frenzy, first some savoury ham, cheese and egg pancakes then sweet with chocolate, ice cream and maple syrup mmmmm nice.

Having read a few reports of the motorscooter madness of rush hour going into Singapore from Johor we delayed leaving until 9:45.

We had booked an extra night in the Magpie Residence so decided to cycle out to Penang Bridge.
The bridge is 13.5 kilometres long and was completed in 1985, you cannot cycle across it so we must leave Penang the same way we arrived, by ferry.

Today we have only 40 km planned with accommodation already booked in Thai Mueang, which means an unhurried start.

Only a short day today 43 km into the city of chumphon, this meant a very leisurely start. Breakfast was not a buffet type as per all the other hotels and resorts we have stopped in, instead you order and they make it for you which is nice but you cannot eat until you near explode like normal, it was also proper coffee not instant and the tea came in a pot.

The cycle out of Hua Hin city was slow and there was a lot of heavy traffic, but it was never a concern, nice and steady.

As predicted it was an uncomfortable night last night, but we were keen and eager to get going today. Our path followed the coast for quite a lot of the day but did include a lovely quiet section a little inland as we approached Hua Hin.

Last night’s rain continued for 6 hours, stopping around 10:00 pm, if you have never been in a tent at night listening to the sound of falling rain then you have missed out, go do it.
We were ready to go at 8:00 am when, as promised Hi Ya Mo To Hidesi turned up to see if we survived the rain last night. He did say Route 43 was the one to follow, so a wave and a shake of hands later we set off.

Camping does have it’s benefits like porridge for breakfast, now we were all set up for a good days cycling.

One smokey night later we went down to our included breakfast, it did include coffee and tea, along with a Japanese breakfast of miso soup, rice, several cooked vegetables and mackerel. We only went for the fish which was nice.
